Things you should know...

Public Transport

  • As London 2012 is aiming for all spectators to travel to events by public transport, the transport arrangements for accessing Hampden Park stadium will be different.
  • Glasgow may be busy when Olympic Football matches are taking place. Even though Glasgow and Hampden Park are used to holding large events, some Olympic Football matches will take place on weekdays and during the daytime, which could affect your travel, so try to plan around this wherever you can.
  • Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street, Mount Florida and King's Park National Rail station are recommended venue stations for spectators attending the Olympic Football events at Hampden Park Stadium. These stations may be busier two to three hours before events begin and one to two hours after events finish. It may also be busy when the last trains leave at the end of the day. This station is expected to be busy with spectators between:
    - 2-5pm and 10pm-midnight: Wednesday 25 July and Saturday 28 July
    - 9am-12noon and 5-7pm: Thursday 26 July and Friday 3 August
    - 11.30am-2.30pm and 5-7pm: Wednesday 1 August
  • Before travelling, make sure you understand all of your options and plan ahead.
  • If you are attending an Olympic Football match, plan and book your travel in advance.

Roads and parking

  • To handle the number of daily visitors anticipated during the Games, it is essential that roads, traffic and parking in Glasgow are properly managed. So road and parking restrictions will be introduced when events are taking place.
  • Local access and parking measures will be in place around Games venues. This will help to provide a safe and secure environment around the venues and help keep traffic moving for local residents and businesses, so they can carry on with their day-to-day activities. Find out more information from London 2012.
  • Roads will be particularly busy before the start and at the end of matches. If you have to travel by car in affected areas, avoid travelling during the busiest periods in the afternoon and evenings.
  • If you have to drive in the affected area during the Games, make sure you plan ahead and understand the road and parking restrictions in place.
  • If you are attending an Olympic Football match, plan and book your travel in advance.
